Payroll employment, earnings and hours
The average weekly earnings of payroll employees edged up $1.97 from October to November to $739.82 (seasonally adjusted).
The year-to-date annual growth rate for 2005 is 3.1%. This rate of change is obtained by comparing the average weekly earnings of the first 11 months of 2005 with the average of the same months of 2004. Industries showing the strongest year-to-date annual increase include information and culture (+5.6%), accommodation and food services (+5.6%), mining and oil and gas (+4.9%), construction (+4.0%), and forestry, logging and support (+3.8%).
Payroll employment in November was up a substantial 48,200 from the previous month to 13,826,300. British Columbia showed a notably strong increase of 19,500 jobs in November.
Nationally, employment has increased by 1.5% or by 205,000 jobs since the beginning of 2005.
