On an average day in 2014/2015, correctional services programs among the 10 reporting provinces and territories supervised just over 110,000 adult offenders in either custody or community programs. This represents a rate of 461 offenders per 100,000 adult population, down 6% from the previous year.

More than 8 in 10 adult offenders under supervision in provincial/territorial correctional services in 2014/2015 were supervised in a community program, such as probation.

In the federal correctional system, which supervises adults serving sentences of two or more years as well as those on conditional release in the community (such as parole), there were more than 23,000 offenders being supervised on any given day. This represents a rate of 81 offenders per 100,000 population, a decrease of 1% from the previous year.

Admissions measure the number of times an adult moves from one type of correctional supervision to another. In 2014/2015, there were just under 332,000 admissions to federal and provincial/territorial adult correctional services in the 12 reporting provinces and territories. This represented a 3% decrease from the previous year.
