The Crime Severity Index is based on Criminal Code incidents, including traffic offences, as well as other federal statute violations. The base index was set at 100 for 2006 for Canada. It excludes data from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's Canadian Police Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, and from the Canadian Forces Military Police Group.
