This estimate covers the four-year period of annual revisions that arise from the gross domestic product revision cycle. In Canada, the System of National Accounts revisions are usually made available with the release of the first quarter, while in the United States the revisions are published with the preliminary estimates of the second quarter.

For some years, the revision process reflects more than the short-term revision round. For example, for 1999 and 2000, methodological changes were implemented for both hours worked and gross domestic product, which had the effect of exaggerating the impact of short-term revisions.
