For the fourth year, aircraft take-offs and landings at Canadian airports
with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and/or flight service stations
continued to increase. These 95 airports reported 6.21 million
movements in 2008 compared with 6.07 million movements
in 2007, an increase of 2.3% (+141,467 movements). Total movements
had been declining since the last peak observed in 1999 (6.64 million
movements).
Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) increased 2.1%
(+89,030 movements) in 2008 compared with a year earlier.
Local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport)
increased 2.9% (+52,437 movements) in 2008 compared with 2007.
