About HAMG

The Health Analysis and Measurement Group (HAMG) conducts policy-relevant research and quantitative analysis of health and social issues. Much of our work examines the impact of disease; the complex relationships between socio-economic status and health; and access to health care. We are continually developing new ways to analyse and measure population health.

We collaborate extensively with researchers and experts within government, universities and other health organizations. We publish papers in Health Reports, Social Trends and Education Quarterly Review as well as in peer-reviewed academic and medical journals. We also present our work at international conferences and at our Seminar Series initiated early in 2001.

Our newsletter “…au courant,” is published three times a year. It highlights current work we are conducting. In both English and French the expression “au courant” means "aware of what is going on” or “well informed." The image of running water or electricity reflects the energy we bring to the research community. The bilingual name emphasizes our dedication to using both official languages in our working environment and presentations.

Our HAMG identifier is based on the grid from the Statsgraph identifier. We added a stylized survival curve to symbolize our work on health expectancy. The lines at top and right add a third dimension to emphasize the many dimensions of our work on health measurement.

Please contact us at hamg@statcan.gc.ca about our work in the following areas:

Access to health care services
Children and youth
Health measurement
Health of communities
Health status of Canadians
Impact of disease
Income inequality
Modeling of disease and interventions
