  1. There were 4,845 residential care facilities in Canada serving some 250,387 residents at the end of the 2008-2009 financial year. That is an increase of more than 3% in residents served compared with the previous year.
  2. The industry generated revenues and expenses of $16.6 billion and $16.4 billion, respectively, up approximately $0.8 billion from the preceding year.
  3. The industry's profit margin was $137.9 million, or 0.8% of total revenues.
  4. Residential care facilities employees worked 465.7 million hours, which corresponds to 238,820 full-time equivalents, and generated 10.5 billion in wages and salaries.
