Sales for the food services and drinking places industry decreased 0.2% from September to $4.4 billion in October. During the same period, the price index for food purchased in restaurants rose 0.2%.

In October, three of the four industry sectors posted lower sales compared with September: the special food services sector, which includes food service contractors, caterers and mobile food services (-1.9%), the drinking places sector (-0.7%), and the full-service restaurant sector (-0.1%). Sales in the limited-service restaurant sector rose 0.2%.

In October, five provinces reported higher sales, four saw declines while one was unchanged. The biggest increase was in Newfoundland and Labrador (+1.1%). The largest decline was in British Columbia (-1.1%).
