Canadian Internet Use Survey: Public use microdata file, 2020

The Canadian Internet Use Survey - Public Use Microdata File for the 2020 reference period is now available. Data were collected from November 2020 to March 2021 from approximately 17,400 individual residents of Canada 15 years of age and older, living in the 10 provinces, and excluding full-time residents (residing for more than six months) of institutions.

The file provides information on a wide range of Internet-related topics, such as household access to the Internet, activities performed on the Internet, the use of Internet-connected smart devices, social connections in the digital age, the use of government online services, e-commerce, online work, digital skills, security, privacy and trust as it all relates to the Internet. In addition, the 2020 iteration includes information on the reasons why Canadians don't use various digital technologies and online services, the impact of COVID-19 on Canadian Internet use, and as well as information on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population.

The initial results from the 2020 Canadian Internet Use Survey were released in The Daily on June 22, 2021. Data were also featured in the infographics "Canadians online in 2020" and "Online shopping in Canada in 2020: Results from Canadian Internet Use Survey"—part of the series Statistics Canada - Infographics (Catalogue number11-627-M)—and a data visualization product "Use of Internet services and technologies by Canadians: Interactive tool," part of Statistics Canada - Data Visualization Products (Catalogue number71-607-X).
