Estimates of interjurisdictional employment in Canada by province and territory, 2002 to 2020

Updated estimates on interjurisdictional employees in Canada for each jurisdiction, total counts, and T4 earnings disaggregated by North American Industry Classification System, age and sex are now available.

Interjurisdictional employees are identified as individuals who maintain their permanent residence in one province or territory but have paid employment in another.

Interjurisdictional employment may represent a significant source of income for home provinces or territories of interjurisdictional employees and a significant source of labour for the provinces or territories in which they work.

  Note to readers

Estimates from 2002 to 2020 are available in tables 14-10-0448-01, 14-10-0449-01, 14-10-0450-01 and 14-10-0451-01 of the Common Output Data Repository. These estimates replace the interjurisdictional employment estimates released on February 5, 2023 (tables 14-10-0433-01, 14-10-0434-01, 14-10-0435-01 and 14-10-0436-01).
