The Census of Agriculture provides a comprehensive and integrated profile of the physical, economic, social and environmental aspects of Canada's agriculture industry. It is conducted every five years. The data are needed to make informed decisions about business management strategies, policies, programs and services that directly affect farmers and rural communities.
Census of Agriculture data provide a reliable source of information to farmers, farm organizations, government departments, agriculture suppliers, service providers, and researchers that can help them to better understand and respond to changes in the industry.

Your information may be used by Statistics Canada in support of our other surveys or for analysis.
The reference date for the census is May 11, 2021, which will allow the comparability of data over time, as well as to coordinate with the Census of Population.
- Collection for most farms will take place from May 3 to September 3, 2021.
- Collection will take place for large or complex farms from January 4 to September 3, 2021.
