Statistics Canada is conducting the Canadian Survey on Everyday Travel (CSET), in collaboration with Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada (HICC), to gather insights on the daily travel habits of Canadians. A better understanding of your travel habits and needs, as well as barriers you may have encountered, will help to inform transportation planning and infrastructure investments in your community.
Your information may also be used by Statistics Canada for other statistical and research purposes.
Although voluntary, your participation is important so that the information collected is as accurate and complete as possible.

Data are collected under the authority of the Statistics Act, Revised Statutes of Canada, 1985, Chapter S-19. Your information will be kept strictly confidential.
Data sharing agreements and record linkage

To enhance the data from this survey and to reduce the response burden, Statistics Canada will combine the information you provide with information from the Census of Population, the Labour Force Survey, the Longitudinal Administrative Databank as well as tax data files.
Statistics Canada may also combine the information you provide with other survey or administrative data sources.

- Trips you took yesterday including destination, main reason for trip, main mode of transportation, if anyone accompanied you and other modes of transportation used before and after the main mode

What is the Canadian Survey on Everyday Travel?
The Canadian Survey on Everyday Travel (CSET) aims to gather insights on the daily travel habits of Canadians. A better understanding of travel habits and needs, as well as the barriers encountered, will help to inform transportation planning and infrastructure investments in communities across the country.
What will the survey be about?
The survey asks a variety of questions about your everyday travel, such as your access to vehicles and micromobility devices, the trips you took yesterday including your destination and mode of transportation, as well as questions about your sociodemographic characteristics (e.g. age, education, etc.).
Why are you collecting this information and what will it be used for?
This survey aims to gather important insights that will guide transportation planning, policy development, and infrastructure investments across the country.
Results will be used to:
- provide a more accurate picture of everyday travel, including caregiving and leisure trips
- inform decisions about services and infrastructure investments
- help communities address traffic, transportation barriers and accessibility
- support research and transportation planning
How much time will it take me to participate in this survey?
The survey will take around 40 minutes to complete. As the survey can be completed online, you will be able to participate at any time that is convenient for you during the collection period. You may receive follow-ups by phone if you do not complete the survey online.
What are the benefits to participating in this survey?
The results will play a key role in supporting the Government of Canada's efforts to improve public transit services, reduce dependency on private vehicles, encourage active transportation, and contribute to the country's sustainability and climate resilience goals.
Is my participation mandatory?
Everyday travel is an important part of life for everyone living in Canada. For the results to be representative, it is important that we have data from all spectrums of the Canadian population, including those who travel a lot and those who do not travel much.
Your participation in this survey is voluntary, however, your participation will help to ensure that survey results are complete and representative of the entire population.

As with all Statistics Canada surveys, any information provided will remain confidential pursuant to the Statistics Act.
