Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for August. Advance results indicate that total manufacturing sales decreased 1.5% in August. The largest decreases were in the petroleum and coal product as well as primary metal subsectors.
This estimate was calculated based on a weighted response rate of 68.2%. The average final response rate for the survey over the previous 12 months has been 94.2%. As Statistics Canada continues to collect data for the August reference month, this early indicator is subject to a higher revision rate than our regular monthly release.

This flash estimate is a special product published to provide Canadians with timely information on the manufacturing sector. The official estimate of manufacturing sales for the month of August, which will be based on a more complete set of survey and administrative data, is scheduled for release on October 16.
