Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for September. Advance results indicate that total manufacturing sales decreased 0.8% in September. The largest declines were in the petroleum and coal product as well as chemical product subsectors.
This estimate was calculated based on a weighted response rate of 69.5%. The average final response rate for the survey over the previous 12 months has been 93.9%. As Statistics Canada continues to collect data for the September reference month, the early indicator is subject to a higher revision rate than our regular monthly release.

This flash estimate is a special product published to provide Canadians with timely information on the manufacturing sector. The official estimate of manufacturing sales for the month of September, which will be based on a more complete set of survey and administrative data, is scheduled for release on November 15.
