Open database of infrastructure, October 2023 to June 2024

The Open Database of Infrastructure (ODI) Version 2 is now available as part of Statistics Canada's Linkable Open Data Environment. The ODI Version 2 comprises 11 infrastructure datasets within three categories:

- Energy: Electrical grid, oil and gas, low carbon infrastructure.

- Transport: Bridges and tunnels, airports, ports and marinas, railways.

- Utilities: Potable water, solid waste, wastewater and storm water, telecommunications.

Each infrastructure type contains a set of common variables that are shared across categories, along with their own unique features. Variables that are common across infrastructure types include: unique identifier, infrastructure subtype, provider, source identifier, province or territory, region, census subdivision name and identifier, geometry, name, and source class. Descriptions for these listed variables, as well as variables unique to each infrastructure type, can be found in the metadata CSV files accompanying the data.

Geographic coverage varies across ODI infrastructure types depending on licencing and availability of data. The ODI brings together data from municipal and provincial open data portals, and is made available under the Open Government Licence - Canada.

Note to readers

The Open Database of Infrastructure was made possible by the ongoing efforts of organizations that produce and maintain open data and by the cooperation of organizations that have either given permission to include their publicly available data or directly provided their data for release as open data. The contribution and assistance of these organizations are gratefully acknowledged.
