Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for January. Advance results indicate that total manufacturing sales rose 2.0% in January. The largest increases were in the motor vehicle industry group as well as the primary metal subsector.
This estimate was calculated based on a weighted response rate of 62.4%. The average final response rate for the survey over the previous 12 months has been 93.6%. As Statistics Canada continues to collect data for the January reference month, this early indicator is subject to a higher revision rate than our regular monthly release.
Note to readers
The percentage change is calculated using seasonally adjusted data in current dollars.
This advance estimate is a special product published to provide Canadians with timely information on the manufacturing sector. The official estimate of manufacturing sales for the month of January, which will be based on a more complete set of survey and administrative data, is scheduled for release on March 14, 2025.
