Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for April. Advance results indicate that total manufacturing sales declined 2.0% in April. The largest decreases were in the petroleum and coal product subsector and motor vehicle industry group.
This estimate was calculated based on a weighted response rate of 59.0%. The average final response rate for the survey over the previous 12 months was 93.7%. As Statistics Canada continues to collect data for the April reference month, this early indicator is subject to a higher revision rate than our regular monthly release.
Note to readers
The percentage change is calculated using seasonally adjusted data in current dollars.
This advance estimate is a special product published to provide Canadians with timely information on the manufacturing sector. The official estimate of manufacturing sales for the month of April, which will be based on a more complete set of survey and administrative data, is scheduled for release on June 13, 2025.
