Oilseed crushing and major grain deliveries statistics, October 2025

Oilseed crushing statistics

Oilseed processors crushed 1.0 million tonnes of canola in October, up 2.0% from September and down 7.0% from October 2024. Oil production reached 428.8 thousand tonnes in October 2025, while meal production totalled 603.0 thousand tonnes.

Deliveries of major grains

Deliveries of major grains across Canada were unchanged (-0.01%) in October 2025 from the same month the previous year, totalling 6.6 million tonnes. Increases in wheat excluding durum (+14.6% to 3.0 million tonnes), flaxseed (+126.2% to 38.4 thousand tonnes), and rye (+31.8% to 28.6 thousand tonnes) contributed to stable deliveries. Saskatchewan accounted for more than half (53.2%) of all deliveries, while Alberta accounted for 30.2% and Manitoba accounted for 12.5%.

Major grains include wheat (excluding durum), durum wheat, oats, barley, rye, flaxseed and canola.

Focus on Canada and the United States

Producer deliveries capture grain that is destined for a primary elevator, feed mill, crushing plant or flour mill. This includes grain elevators that hold grain before it is exported, as well as shipments to US markets that are not licensed by the Canadian Grain Commission.

The imposition of tariffs by the United States may have an impact on producer deliveries of major grains in the coming months. In 2024, Canada exported a total of 4.5 million tonnes of wheat (excluding durum), durum wheat, oats, barley, rye, flaxseed and canola to the United States. Statistics Canada will continue to monitor developments on tariffs and the impact on producer deliveries.

Note to readers

Due to the US government shutdown, the release of international trade data has been delayed. As a result, the unlicensed portion of deliveries in table 32-10-0351-01 will be calculated in part using estimated values, and will be subject to larger than normal revisions once actual trade data become available.
