Real gross domestic product of the natural resources sector rises in the third quarter
Real gross domestic product (GDP) of the natural resources sector increased 0.9% in the third quarter, after decreasing 2.3% in the second quarter. In comparison, economy-wide real GDP increased 0.6% in the third quarter, after falling 0.5% in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, real GDP rose in the energy (+1.5%) and forestry (+0.7%) subsectors, recovering from declines in the previous quarter. In the energy subsector, refined petroleum products (+5.7%) and crude oil (+3.9%) contributed to the increase, which was partially offset by a drop in electricity (-2.2%). Elsewhere, minerals and mining (-0.8%) and hunting, fishing and water (-0.2%) continued to show declines in the third quarter. In the minerals and mining subsector, the decrease was mainly due to metallic minerals extraction (-2.5%) and primary metallic mineral products (-1.8%).
