Given the rapidly evolving economic situation, Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for November. Advance results indicate that total manufacturing sales increased 1.2% in November. The largest increases were in the chemical product, transportation equipment, and primary metal subsectors.
This estimate was calculated based on a weighted response rate of 57.7%. The average final response rate for the survey over the previous 12 months was 94.5%. As Statistics Canada continues to collect data for the November reference month, this early indicator is subject to a higher revision rate than our regular monthly release.

This flash estimate is a special product published in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic to provide Canadians with timely information on the manufacturing sector. The official estimate of manufacturing sales for the month of November, which will be based on a more complete set of survey and administrative data, is scheduled for release on January 15, 2024.
