Canadians registered 446,620 new motor vehicles in the third quarter of 2021, down 8.2% from the second quarter. This also represents a decline of 12.2% from the third quarter of 2020, with a peak of 508,642 new registrations, while in previous years new registrations peak in the second quarter. Dealerships were closed for half of the second quarter of 2020, as Canada dealt with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Less new passenger cars (-10.0%), pickup trucks (-32.3%), multipurpose vehicles (-2.2%) and vans (-31.3%) were registered in the third quarter of 2021 compared with the same quarter in 2020.
