October 12, 2023, 11:00 a.m. (EDT)

Many fruits and vegetables grown in Canada are ready for harvest in the fall. Let’s hope for a bountiful fall harvest and take a look at some of the most popular local fruits and veggies this season.

Cranberry sauce is a staple in many households on Thanksgiving—do you love it or hate it?

Cranberries are primarily produced in North America. While the state of Wisconsin is the world’s largest producer, Quebec is the leading producer of cranberries in Canada.

In 2022, farmers in Canada reported harvesting 17,790 acres of cranberries.

Fall in Canada is a fruitful season.

Farmers in Canada reported 218,965 acres of harvested grapes in 2022. That’s a whole lot of wine, juice and raisins! Take advantage and enjoy a tangy treat or sweet beverage, whether it’s a locally sourced glass of grape juice or a unique variety of wine—many of which pair perfectly with fall roasted vegetables.

Speaking of vegetables, Brussels sprouts and broccoli are usually the last veggies standing on every kid’s plate—but they’re also delicious! Have you learned to love them yet? Because we’re sprucing up our plates with a little local greenery this fall!

There were 1,739 acres of Brussels sprouts and 9,054 acres of broccoli harvested by farmers in 2022, as well as 10,370 acres of cabbage and 20,430 acres of green and wax beans.

In Canada, the fall harvest offers us a variety of locally-sourced delicious fruits and vegetables to add to our plates. Whether you’re a wine lover, a sprout hater or a green bean enthusiast, may your plate be full and your fall harvest bountiful!
