The current standard classifications for products in use at Statistics Canada are the North American Product Classification System (NAPCS) - Canada (Provisional Version 0.1) for services, the Annual Survey of Manufactures (ASM) - List of Goods, the Standard Classification of Transported Goods (SCTG), the Canadian Export Classification (CEC) 2010 and the Customs Tariff (CT).
The North American Product Classification System (NAPCS) will become a departmental standard classification for goods and services once completed in 2012. A number of survey programs have already implemented parts of the classification, especially for services where there was previously no existing standard classification. NAPCS is still under development, and will include an updated structure for manufactured goods, based on the ASM - List of Goods for manufactured goods, and additional products not currently included such as construction services, wholesale and retail products, and manufacturing services.
