2012

The 2012 version of the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Canada is available today. This version reflects revisions that are done at five-year intervals. NAICS Canada 2012 replaces NAICS Canada 2007.

The NAICS changes for 2012 were made to account for the changing economies of the three North American countries. They represent a minor revision and all occur at the lower levels of the classification.

Various kinds of changes are brought into NAICS for 2012. Among the most notable are changes relating to outsourcing manufacturing production, video game publishers and developers, book publishing exclusive agents, and crafts.

NAICS was jointly developed by three agencies: the Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía of Mexico, the United States Office of Management and Budget, and Statistics Canada. The goal was to provide a consistent framework for the collection, analysis and dissemination of industrial statistics used by government policy analysts, academics and researchers, the business community and the public.
