Aircraft take-offs and landings at Canadian airports with NAVCANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations decreased 4.0% in January from the same month a year earlier. These 92 airports reported 345,089 movements in January compared with 359,485 movements at 93 airports in January 2013. The decline was partially attributable to the extreme cold this January and, since December 2013, to the closing of Edmonton City Centre Airport in November 2013.

On January 7, 2014, Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International Airport experienced a ground stop for approximately eight hours caused by the deep freeze. This contributed to a 3.8% decline in the number of movements compared with January 2013.
