For the fifth consecutive year, the number of aircraft take-offs and landings at Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations declined from a year earlier. These 93 airports reported 5.5 million movements in 2013, down 1.8% compared with 2012.

Of this total, 4.0 million were itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) in 2013, down 1.7% (-66,891 movements) from 2012. Itinerant movements were 8.8% below the recent high in 2008.

Local movements in 2013 (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) declined 2.3% (-34,459 movements) from a year earlier. This marked the sixth consecutive annual decline.
