Farm operating revenues and expenses, 2013

Average operating revenues per farm in Canada amounted to $387,948 in 2013, up 3.3% from 2012, according to taxation records.

Overall, 10 of the 11 major farm types posted higher average operating revenues. Greenhouse, nursery and floriculture operations led the way with an 8.0% increase, followed by hog farms (+7.1%) and other vegetable (except potato) and melon farms (+6.4%).

Average operating expenses rose 3.3%, with the largest increases coming from hog farms (+7.9%), oilseed and grain farms (+5.5%), as well as greenhouse, nursery and floriculture operations (+4.9%).
