Canadian manufacturers produced 744 000 tonnes of cement in December, down 35.6% from the previous month. The decline was typical for the time of year, as production of cement products tends to drop along with the temperature. Compared with December 2013, cement production was up 15.5%.
Total shipments, own manufactured, decreased 22.3% to 748 000 tonnes. Like production, shipments of cement typically decline this time of year. Shipments own manufactured were up 28.1% from the same month a year earlier.

The Cement Survey measures, on a monthly basis, the quantities of domestic cement that are produced and shipped by Canadian manufacturers. The survey also measures quantities of sales of domestic and imported cement that are distributed by region and exported.
