Revised data on provincial and territorial labour productivity and related variables in the business sector by industry from 2013 to 2015 are now available.
These revisions are consistent with those incorporated in the provincial and territorial economic accounts and the provincial and territorial gross domestic product by industry, released on November 9, 2016.
Beginning with this release, datasets on labour productivity and related measures are available in a new CANSIM table. CANSIM table 383-0033 replaces CANSIM tables 383-0029 and 383-0030, which are now archived. The new combined table focuses on gathering and presenting more detailed information. It also includes, in particular, data on gross domestic product and related measures (including productivity and unit labour costs) by industry at a four-digit North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) level of aggregation.
This release also takes into account minor industry classification changes. As of 2013, other government health services (NAICS codes 624 and part of 621) were removed from provincial and territorial government services (GS912) and reclassified to government health services (GS620).
Note to readers
Provincial and territorial measures of labour productivity and related variables are consistent with the concepts of the Canadian System of Macroeconomic Accounts and with the 2007 input-output industry coding.
It is important to note that real output (used to measure productivity) is based on the value added measured at basic prices, not market prices, which is consistent with the detailed framework by industry. As well, the real estate, rental and leasing industry, part of the service-producing business sector, excludes the imputed rent for owner-occupied dwellings as there are no data on the number of hours that homeowners spend on dwelling maintenance services.
