This month, the StatCan Blog looks at trade and productivity through the eyes of a researcher.

Statistics Canada gathers the country's most authoritative statistics on demographics, labour, industry and many other topics. The agency is, therefore, an ideal environment for research. Analysts across the agency regularly work with data to learn more about Canada's economic and social condition.

Senior research economist Beiling Yan has been using economic data to take a look at the relationship between trade and productivity, including the impact of fluctuations in the Canadian dollar, increased export and imports, and greater access to foreign markets.

Ms. Yan writes about her work in the February edition of the StatCan Blog. Her article is the first in a quarterly series of posts by StatCan researchers dedicated to showing and explaining their research.
