Dairy statistics, December 2016

The volume of milk and cream sold in December was 247 395 kilolitres, down 1.4% from December 2015.

Sales of milk decreased 1.8% from the same month a year earlier to 214 478 kilolitres in December, while cream sales increased 1.0% to 32 917 kilolitres.

Cheddar cheese stocks on January 1 were at 47 468 tonnes, up 0.3% from the same day a year earlier. Process cheese stocks on January 1, 2017, increased 2.7% from January 1, 2016, to 7 766 tonnes.

Data on dairy stocks for January 1, 2017, are now available in CANSIM table 003-0033. These data represent the ending stocks of the previous month.

Data on production of dairy products, stocks of dairy products, and commercial sales have been revised back to January 2011. This is the result of revisions to administrative and survey data.
