The Architectural, Engineering and Related Services Price Index (AESPI) declined by 0.3% in the fourth quarter of 2016, following a 0.5% decline in the third quarter. This marked the sixth consecutive quarterly decrease.
Engineering services, the largest component of the AESPI, reported a 0.2% price decrease from the third to the fourth quarter of 2016.
Prices for architectural and landscape architectural services increased by 0.1% in the fourth quarter of 2016.
Prices for the surveying and mapping component decreased by 0.2%.
Year-over-year change
Year over year, the AESPI decreased 4.1% as a result of lower prices for engineering services (-4.8%) and for surveying and mapping services (-3.5%), which more than offset higher prices for architectural and landscape architectural services (+1.5%).

The Architectural, Engineering and Related Services Price Index is a quarterly survey that collects information on the prices of architectural, engineering, surveying and mapping services.
With each release, data for the previous quarter may have been revised. Data are also subject to an annual revision with the release of second quarter data of the following reference year. The index is not seasonally adjusted. Data are available at the Canada level only.
