The six Canadian Level I air carriers flew 6.3 million passengers on scheduled and charter services in February, up 5.9% from February 2017 and continuing the upward year-over-year monthly trend that began in April 2014.
Traffic increased 8.2% year over year to 16.2 billion passenger-kilometres in February. Capacity rose 6.5% to 19.4 billion available seat-kilometres. This resulted in a higher passenger load factor in February (83.3%) compared with the same month a year earlier (81.9%), as the increase in demand for travel was stronger than the rise in capacity.
On average, each passenger travelled 2,548 kilometres, up 2.2% compared with February 2017.
The volume of turbo fuel consumed rose 5.8% to 584.7 million litres, while the number of flying hours increased 6.1% to 174,000.
Total operating revenue increased 11.4% from the same month a year earlier to $1.7 billion in February.
