On July 11, we celebrate World Population Day. To mark the occasion, Statistics Canada is launching a new online tool: Canada's population clock!

Canada's population clock is an interactive learning tool for all Canadians. It uses the agency's quarterly demographic estimates to give Canadians a sense of the pace of Canada's population renewal. The population clock also models how often, and where, births, deaths and migrations are occurring.

The population clock is a real-time model. Population estimates and Census counts remain the measures used in the context of various governmental programs.

Canada's population clock is available online in the Features section of our website.

  Note to readers

The population clock provides accurate information on the pace of Canada's population renewal. However, it is not meant to be used for decision making. The population clock is a learning tool to help increase Canadians' statistical literacy, whereas the quarterly population estimates and Census counts are measures that are used in the context of various government programs.

Population estimates for the second quarter of 2018 and the annual demographic estimates (from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018) for the total population will be released on September 27, 2018. On this occasion, the population clock will also be recalibrated to ensure consistency with population estimates.
