New version of NAPCS Canada 2017

The North American Product Classification System (NAPCS) Canada Version 2.0 is now available.
NAPCS Canada 2017 Version 2.0 is the departmental standard for classifying products (goods and services). It replaces NAPCS Canada 2017 Version 1.0.
NAPCS Canada 2017 Version 2.0 has been created in response to the legalization of cannabis for non-medical use. The introduction of cannabis products into NAPCS Canada required creating various new categories for agricultural production, manufacturing, and retail trade and wholesale trade of cannabis goods.
Additional changes have been made to NAPCS Canada 2017 Version 2.0. The most noticeable are related to buildings and civil engineering works, and to research and experimental development. Furthermore, regarding research and development, NAPCS Canada has been updated to align with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's Frascati Manual 2015 for fields of research. This update aligns with a new Canadian research and development classification being developed in partnership between Statistics Canada and the federal government's granting agencies and councils—including the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
NAPCS has been developed by the statistical agencies of Canada, Mexico and the United States. However, Statistics Canada has created new categories of cannabis goods and services that are unique to NAPCS Canada.
