A new dataset from the rapid response component of the Canadian Community Health Survey – Annual Component is now available. The rapid response data are on "smoking stages of change and tobacco alternatives and vaping."

This component asked respondents who were cigarette smokers at the time of the survey about their intentions to quit and their recent attempts to quit smoking. An additional series of questions was asked of all respondents to assess the use of alternative tobacco products such as cigars, cigarillos or pipes, and it also included questions on vaping or "e-cigarette" devices.

  Note to readers

The data for the rapid response component were collected from respondents aged 12 and older from all provinces throughout the 2020 collection year.

The data are now available in the research data centres. Custom tables can be requested by contacting the InfoStats address below.

The addition of these rapid response questions to the Canadian Community Health Survey was sponsored by Health Canada.
