Monthly Survey of Manufacturing: Flash estimate, January 2024

Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for January. Advance results indicate that total manufacturing sales rose 0.4% in January. The largest increases were in the transportation equipment as well as machinery subsectors.
This estimate was calculated based on a weighted response rate of 69.1%. The average final response rate for the survey over the previous 12 months has been 94.4%. As Statistics Canada continues to collect data for the January reference month, this early indicator is subject to a higher revision rate than our regular monthly release.

This flash estimate is a special product published to provide Canadians with timely information on the manufacturing sector. The official estimate of manufacturing sales for the month of January, which will be based on a more complete set of survey and administrative data, is scheduled for release on March 14.
