There were 457,265 aircraft take-offs and landings at the 93 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations in April 2013 compared with 462,296 movements in April 2012. Year-over-year decreases were reported by 50 airports. Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International, Ontario (35,376 movements) and Vancouver International, British Columbia (23,859 movements) were the most active sites in April.

Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) decreased (-4,657 movements) in April 2013 from the same month in 2012. These airports reported 319,186 movements compared with 323,843 movements in April 2012. Year-over-year variations ranged from an increase of 1,751 movements (+16.2%) at Edmonton International, Alberta to a drop of 1,408 movements (-62.5%) at Norman Wells, Northwest Territories. Forty-eight airports reported year-over-year decreases in the number of itinerant aircraft movements in April 2013.

In April 2013, there were 138,079 local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) recorded. This represents a decrease of 0.3% (-374 movements) compared with the previous year. Montréal/St-Hubert, Quebec (8,346 movements) and Boundary Bay, British Columbia (7,754 movements) recorded the largest number of local movements.

Itinerant movements: domestic, transborder and international

There were 264,946 domestic itinerant movements reported by 93 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations in April 2013, down 1.7% (-4,497 movements) from April 2012. Vancouver International, British Columbia (18,014 movements) and Calgary International, Alberta (15,479 movements) reported the greatest number of domestic itinerant movements. Forty-eight airports reported year-over-year decreases in the number of domestic movements in April 2013.

Seventy-seven airports recorded 42,107 transborder itinerant movements (between Canada and the United States) in April 2013, unchanged from the same month in 2012. Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International, Ontario (15,877 movements) reported the greatest number of transborder itinerant movements.

In April 2013, forty-nine airports reported 12,133 other international itinerant movements, down 1.3% from April 2012. Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International, Ontario, recorded 5,303 other international itinerant movements. This represents 43.7% of the total other international itinerant movements reported.
