There were 487,441 aircraft take-offs and landings at the 93 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations in October 2013 compared with 442,987 movements in October 2012. Year-over-year increases were reported by 58 airports. Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International, Ontario (36,412 movements) and Vancouver International, British Columbia (23,565 movements) were the most active sites in October 2013.

Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) increased 6.2% (+20,054 movements) in October 2013 from the same month the previous year. These airports reported 343,086 movements compared with 323,032 movements in October 2012. Year-over-year variations ranged from an increase of 2,790 movements (+91.3%) at Calgary/Springbank, Alberta to a drop of 942 movements (-3.9%) at Vancouver International, British Columbia. Sixty-three airports reported year-over-year increases in the number of itinerant aircraft movements in October 2013.

In October 2013, there were 144,355 local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) recorded. This represents an increase of 20.3% (+24,400 movements) compared with the previous year. Montréal/St-Hubert, Quebec (10,138 movements) and Calgary/Springbank, Alberta (8,726 movements) recorded the largest number of local movements.

Itinerant movements: domestic, transborder and international

There were 290,829 domestic itinerant movements reported by 93 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations in October 2013, up 7.3% (+19,846 movements) from October 2012. Year-over-year variations ranged from an increase of 2,756 movements (+92.3%) at Calgary/Springbank, Alberta to a drop of 934 movements (-5.0%) at Vancouver International, British Columbia. Sixty-four airports reported year-over-year increases in the number of domestic movements in October 2013.

Eighty-seven airports recorded 42,906 transborder itinerant movements (between Canada and the United States) in October 2013, increasing from 42,896 movements the same month in 2012. Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International, Ontario (15,721 movements) reported the greatest number of transborder itinerant movements.

In October 2013, thirty-nine airports reported 9,351 other international itinerant movements, up 2.2% from October 2012. Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International, Ontario, recorded 4,624 other international itinerant movements.
