Just over 25 million tonnes of non-hazardous waste was sent to private and public waste disposal facilities in 2014, up 2% from 2012, according to the 2014 surveys on waste management in the business and government sectors.
Note to readers
Data in this release are preliminary. Complete data on disposal and diversion for 2014, and financial data for the same year will be released at a later date.
The waste management industry surveys are completed by businesses and municipal government bodies involved in waste management activities. The surveys collect information on the quantity of waste that is disposed of in, or diverted from, landfills. Additionally, financial and employment information is collected.
