2016

35.9%

(annual change)

Maple production increased by 36.5% from 2015 to 12.2 million gallons in 2016. Favourable weather conditions resulted in higher yields and production across Canada.

Quebec continued to account for over 90% of the production, with 11.2 million gallons in 2016, up 38.3% from 2015. Yields in the province were 3.47 pounds per tap compared with 2.53 pounds per tap in 2015.

In New Brunswick, production increased 22.8% to 528,000 gallons, while in Nova Scotia production more than doubled from 19,000 gallons in 2015 to 48,000 gallons in 2016. In Ontario, production increased by 7.9% to 398,000 gallons in 2016.

The total value of maple products increased by 35.9% from 2015 to $486.7 million. The share of syrup going to the lower-priced processing market for New Brunswick and Ontario increased in 2016, resulting in the lower value of maple products in these provinces.
