This survey collects information on how gynecological health symptoms impact women's daily lives in Canada. Symptoms may be related to menstruation, perimenopause, menopause, other health conditions or be of unknown cause.
Survey topics include menstruation, access to menstrual products, as well as symptoms related to menstruation, perimenopause and menopause. The survey also gathers information about access to a regular health care provider, pregnancy, medication use, chronic conditions and gynecological surgeries or procedures.
Survey results will help researchers, all levels of government and organizations develop equitable programs and policies to better support women's gynecological health.

Data are collected under the authority of the Statistics Act, Revised Statutes of Canada, 1985, Chapter S-19. Your information will be kept strictly confidential.
Data sharing agreements and record linkage
Data sharing agreements
To avoid duplication of surveys, Statistics Canada has signed agreements to share data from this survey with provincial ministries of health and the Institut de la statistique du Québec. The Institut de la statistique du Québec and provincial ministries of health may make this data available to local health authorities.
Data shared with your ministry of health or the Institut de la statistique du Québec may also include identifiers such as name, address, telephone number and health number. Local health authorities would receive only survey responses and the postal code.
These organizations have agreed to keep the data confidential and use it only for statistical purposes.
Statistics Canada will only share the data provided with your consent.
To reduce the number of questions in this questionnaire, Statistics Canada will use information from the Census of Population, the Longitudinal Immigration Database, and your tax forms submitted to the Canada Revenue Agency. With your consent, Statistics Canada will share the information from your tax forms with provincial ministries of health and the Institut de la statistique du Québec.
These organizations have agreed to keep the information confidential and to use it only for statistical and research purposes.
Statistics Canada will only share this tax information with these organizations with your permission.
Record linkage
To enhance the data from this survey and to reduce the response burden, Statistics Canada will combine the information you provide with information from the Census of Population, the Longitudinal Immigration Data Base and tax data for all members of your household. Your provincial ministry of health and the Institut de la statistique du Québec for Quebec respondents, may also combine the information you provide with other surveys or administrative data sources.

What is the purpose of this survey?
The purpose of the Canadian Gynecological Health Survey (CGHS) is to better understand how gynecological health symptoms impact women's daily lives in Canada. Symptoms may be related to menstruation, perimenopause, menopause, other health conditions or be of unknown cause.

Topics include menstruation, access to menstrual products, as well as symptoms related to menstruation, perimenopause and menopause. The survey also gathers information about access to a regular health care provider, pregnancy, medication use, chronic conditions and gynecological surgeries or procedures.
Do I have to take part in this survey?
Your participation in this survey is voluntary. However, because each selected participant represents many other people, your participation will help to ensure that survey results are complete.
Health is an important part of everyone's life. For the results to be representative, it is important that we have data from all spectrums of the Canadian population, including those in good and poor health.
Who has access to the survey data that you collect?
Access is strictly controlled.
All Statistics Canada employees are responsible for ensuring the security of confidential information. Only employees who need to view confidential files as part of their duties are authorized to access them. A network of physical security systems and procedures protects confidential information against unauthorized access.
There is a data-sharing agreement between Statistics Canada, the provincial ministries of health, as well as the Institut de la statistique du Québec (for Québec data), to share the information collected from this survey. The purpose of this is to reduce the burden on respondents, and to reduce the cost of data collection. The information you provide to us can only be shared with your consent. These organizations are also prohibited by law from disclosing any identifiable information based on data collected by Statistics Canada.
How is my privacy and personal information protected? How will I know if all this will be kept confidential?
The information is collected under the authority of the Statistics Act. All information collected under this Act must be protected and kept strictly confidential. Statistics Canada cannot release any information to others that would identify you or any member of your household. This means that your information cannot be released to anyone outside Statistics Canada, including the courts, the Canada Revenue Agency, or even the RCMP, without your written consent.
Furthermore, this information cannot be made available under any other law, including the Access to Information Act.
All Statistics Canada employees take an oath of secrecy. Our computers have multiple security features and only employees who require access to the information are authorized to view it.
When will the results of the survey be available?
The survey results will be made available to the public in fall of 2027 through a variety of channels, including the Statistics Canada website, the Statistics Canada Research Data Centres (RDCs), and approximately 700 public libraries across Canada.
