On a seasonally adjusted basis, sales in the food services and drinking places subsector increased for the fourth consecutive month, rising 0.5% to $8.1 billion in July.
Higher sales at limited-service eating places (+0.8%) accounted for most of the increase in July, followed by special food services (+1.2%) and full-service restaurants (+0.1%). Sales at drinking places decreased 0.9%.
In July, six provinces saw increases in sales, with the largest gains in dollar terms coming from Alberta (+1.3%) and Ontario (+0.4%). With some areas recording record-setting rainfall, all four Atlantic provinces posted declines in July, led by Nova Scotia (-0.7%).
