Aquaculture sales increase in 2024
Sales of Canadian aquaculture products and services rose 8.8% year over year to $1.4 billion in 2024, while product expenses increased 7.0%. Higher aquaculture sales in Newfoundland and Labrador (+41.9%) and New Brunswick (+11.2%) accounted for most of the national increase.
Canadian production of farmed finfish increased 11.6% year over year to 122 280 tonnes in 2024. The total value of farmed finfish was up 8.4% to $1.2 billion, despite a 2.9% decline in the average farmed finfish price.
Over the same period, Canadian farmed shellfish production declined 2.2% to 37 904 tonnes. The value of farmed shellfish increased to $134.6 million (+6.2%), due to an 8.5% increase in the average price of farmed shellfish.
