Cannabis production data, 2021

Today, Statistics Canada's Census of Agriculture program is pleased to announce the release of data on licensed cannabis production.

These data provide the number of licensed cannabis cultivators and their production areas at the national and provincial levels of geography. Separate information is available for operations growing cannabis under cover and in open fields.

The total area of licensed cannabis grown under cover in Canada was 20,130,384 square feet (1 870 174 square metres), while the total area of licensed cannabis grown in open fields was 1,692 acres (685 hectares), for the May 2021 reference period. Ontario had the largest area of licensed cannabis grown under cover, while British Columbia had the largest area of licensed cannabis grown in open fields.
