Stocks of frozen and chilled meats in cold storage facilities totalled 139 825 tonnes as of January 1, 2023, increasing 0.6% following two quarters of steady decline (-6.5% from July to October 2022 and -6.8% from April to June 2022). The stocks were down 7.1% on January 1, 2023 from January 1, 2022.
Stocks of frozen and chilled pork (80 307 tonnes) continued to make up the largest proportion of frozen and chilled meats in cold storage facilities in Canada, followed by stocks of frozen and chilled beef (41 198 tonnes).
