May 30, 2022, 8:37 a.m. (EDT)

Preliminary data from the Visitor Travel Survey (VTS) for the second, third, and fourth quarters of 2021 are now available, as well as revised data for the first quarter. Data tables of international travellers visiting Canada are available upon request.

The online table ''Spending by foreign residents travelling in Canada by country of residence, tourism region and spending category'' was updated for the pandemic period covering the second quarter of 2020 to the fourth quarter of 2021, and can be accessed through the ''Tables'' tab above.

The VTS provides statistics on the activities of US residents and overseas residents related to their travel in Canada. It measures the volume and characteristics of these travellers and their travel spending.

Note to readers

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all Visitor Travel Survey (VTS) collection operations were suspended in March 2020 and estimates for subsequent quarters have been produced using different methods. In the absence of survey data from travellers, estimates were derived using growth rates from relevant administrative datasets and previous VTS results. Due to data quality considerations, some variables or levels of detail were not produced. Users are strongly advised to read the description of data sources, methods, and limitations provided in the Visitor Travel Survey webpage.

It is recommended that users interpret estimates for these quarters with the aforementioned considerations in mind.
