Canada is known for its ethnocultural and religious diversity, with every Canadian contributing to this rich landscape. Data on the origins and religions of the population have been collected by the Census of Canada since 1871. Religious diversity is an important part of the country’s make-up—the question on religious affiliation in the 2021 Census of Population provided data for over 100 religions practised in Canada.
More beekeepers and more bees in 2024 did not translate into more honey production. In fact, in 2024, honey production fell to its second-lowest level in over a decade, with the usual culprits of unfavourable weather conditions on the Prairies and the deadly varroa mite mainly to blame.
“If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes.” This famous (and probably apocryphal) quote, usually attributed to Mark Twain, could often be applied to Canada. It’s not uncommon to experience several seasons in one week, or even in one 24-hour period. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, we can expect more extreme weather events, including “increasing wildfires, more intense droughts and hurricanes, and more intense heat waves.”
Museums, big and small, all contribute to our collective memory and are prized destinations for school groups, parents with young children, and tourists alike. Many museums are also a business. In the first half of 2024, we counted 1,661 museum businesses with and without employees, all doing their part to keep Canada’s past alive.
