Stocks of frozen and chilled meats, October 1, 2018

Stocks of frozen and chilled meats in cold storage totalled 108 852 tonnes as of October 1, down 3.4% from July 1.

Compared with July, stocks of frozen pork meats decreased by 4.1%, while stocks of frozen beef meats were down 9.7% on October 1. Compared with the same month a year earlier, stocks of frozen pork meats decreased 1.5%, while stocks of frozen beef meats were up 7.0%.

Stocks of frozen pork meats continued to account for the largest amount of frozen and chilled meat available in Canada (64 473 tonnes), followed by stocks of frozen beef meats (31 276 tonnes).

Geographically, Ontario continued to hold the largest portion of stocks of frozen beef meats with 46.8% as of October 1, followed by Quebec (23.7%) and Alberta (22.8%).

This release contains data on stock holdings for various cuts of pork, beef, veal, mutton and lamb, and fancy meats at the national level, as well as total red meats at the regional level. This release also contains the holdings of imported meat at the national level for the same periods.

Data on stocks of frozen and chilled meats, domestic and imported, have been revised back to January 1, 2016. Details are available upon request.
