Version 2.0 of the Open Database of Buildings (ODB) is now available. The ODB is the result of an exploratory initiative aimed at enhancing the use and harmonization of open building data from municipal, regional and provincial sources.

The number of building footprints available in the ODB has increased to about 4.4 million, due to the inclusion of data from four additional municipalities.

The ODB contains data on eight variables for each footprint: data provider, latitude, longitude, area, perimeter, census subdivision name, census subdivision unique identifier and unique building identifier. The open microdata used to create version 2.0 of the ODB came from 65 different data providers from January 2018 to February 2019.

A complementary database, constructed by Microsoft, using deep neural networks to extract building footprints from satellite imagery is also available on the Microsoft GitHub Repository.

For more information on the ODB, and to access the data, visit the Open Building Data website. For more information on the Microsoft database and to access the data, visit the Microsoft GitHub Repository.

  Note to readers

The Open Database of Buildings is possible through the ongoing collaboration and work of local governments to maintain and enhance their open administrative data.
